Bounce House Safety: A Parent and Host Checklist

How do I keep a bounce house party safe?

Keep an adult watching the unit at all times, group riders by similar size and age, enforce the posted age and capacity limits, make sure the unit is anchored, and stop use in rain or high wind. Bounce Event Rentals sets up and anchors every unit and reviews safe use with the host before guests arrive.

The host checklist

  1. Assign an adult attendant to watch the unit whenever children are inside.
  2. Keep groups to similar size and age; rotate toddlers and older kids separately.
  3. Remove shoes, glasses, and sharp or hard objects before entering.
  4. No flips, no climbing the walls or netting, and no rough play.
  5. Respect the capacity posted on the unit, about 5 to 6 similar-sized children for a standard bounce house.
  6. Confirm the unit is anchored, stakes on grass or sandbags on hard surfaces.
  7. Stop use and clear the unit if rain or high wind arrives.

The standards behind the checklist

Industry safety practice for inflatable amusement devices is described in ASTM F2374, the recognized standard for the design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance of inflatable amusement devices. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) also publishes general guidance on inflatable amusement safety. The network follows this practice; the full posture is on our Safety and Standards page.
